Fanny Rabinovich Compañez, painter, engraver and drafswoman,
originally from Lodz, Poland, arrived in Mexico in 1938 and enrolled in the Escuela
Nocturna para Trabajadores, where she took drawing and engraving courses. In
1942 she joined the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving La
Esmeralda and had her first individual exhibition (24 oil paintings, 13
drawings and eight engravings) at the Liga Popular Israelita, for which Frida
Kahlo wrote the presentation text. In 1955, her work was presented at the Salón
de la Plástica Mexicana (SPM) and in 2007, the Casa de la Primera Imprenta
organized the retrospective exhibition La Fanny de Los Fridos.
